Making Disciples at Huguenot Road Baptist Church

At HRBC, we take seriously the command of Jesus to "make disciples" in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20). Out of all the great things Jesus told his followers to do-go, teach, baptize-the one thing Jesus said we must do (it is imperative) is make disciples. A disciple is a learner. A disciple of Christ is one who learns to faithfully follow Jesus Christ and leads others to do the same.

How do we learn to become faithful followers of Christ? It takes intentional effort. That's why we have structured educational ministries to help believers grow in their faith. Only a maturing Christian recognizes that he/she cannot do it alone. First of all, we need God's Spirit to convict us of truth through Bible study. Then we need other believers to walk with us and encourage us along the way.

At HRBC, it is through the disciple making process that we enable members to become disciplined followers of Christ. A Christian is called to grow in Christ-likeness. Becoming a disciple, or student, of Jesus involves more than just believing certain things about who Jesus is. Becoming a student of Jesus involves "becoming a doer of the word." Jesus said, "those who hear me and do what I say are like those intelligent people who build their homes on solid rock, where rain and floods and wind cannot shake them" (Matthew 7:24-25).

We believe that building life on the foundation of Jesus Christ (putting him first in our lives) is the only way to live. The disciple-making ministry at HRBC is designed to help people follow the path laid down by Jesus Christ in his teachings and through his example. Our goal is to help you transform what you believe into God-honoring responses to real life situations.

We encourage you to engage in this journey of faith that will change your life-forever! At HRBC, we believe the process of becoming students of Christ doesn't happen automatically. It requires intentional effort for us to become disciplined followers of Christ, and we cannot reach spiritual maturity on our own. For this reason, we offer four different types of experiences to help us become more like our leader, Jesus Christ.
